What's Up With That? November 2009 Home Sales Up 252%

It is a surprising statistic to say the least. Home sales in November 2009 climbed to a record 252 % compared to the same month last year. This is the highest of any Canadian city, and this rise is in spite of the fact that home prices have experienced an approximate 22% increase over the same period of time.

The question of why might be on the edge of some people's minds. As an observer to the events that surround us, we've had a great run this summer and fall as the market stabilized itself. This particular thrust in sales offers the suggestion, to my mind at least, that with the great interest rates, market value, impending busy-ness of the Olympics soon to arrive, that many buyers are hustling to secure their deals before the Olympic stampede overruns the city.

It is quite likely that there will be a considerable lull during the Olympics, and it is not far-fetched to consider the possibility that many foreigners visiting Vancouver during the Olympics might also be sniffing around and curious about owning property in Vancouver if they've enjoyed their stay and seen a potential 'promise' for owning property here.

Of course, all this is mere speculation, as we observe the trends that do occur, and the events that are yet to come. It is definitely an interesting time in Vancouver's Real Estate market, and still one that is proving to be very beneficial to both buyers and sellers today.
